2013 Aikido Marathon 9th November

Dear fellow aikidoka from Sheffield and beyond,

It' s now 2 weeks until our 6th Aikido Marathon where we challenge ourselves to train a massive 14 hours in 1 day!

We are this year again running the event as a charity fundraiser. Last year we managed to raise over £500 for the Sheffield Children's Hospital, and I'm hoping we can do the same again, or even better! This year we are raising funds for the Sick Children Trust; they are also based in the Children's Hospital and are raising funds to build a home away from home for parents and their children who have to stay at hospital for long periods of time.

See a recent article: www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/news/health/one-final-push-for-hospital-homes-appeal-1-6157032

I've created a team on justgiving: www.justgiving.com/teams/aikidomarathon2013

Click on "join the team" at the bottom of the page and get your friends, colleagues and family to donate on your behalf.

Please join us on SATURDAY 9th November at 6.45am for a 7am start. Bring plenty of fluids (coffee!!!), snacks (jaffa cakes!) and your smiles! As per usual, we will have a 5-minute break every hour.

Prices to attend this olympian endeavour:

  • Students: £20 (£15 if you raise £5 or more)
  • City: £25 (£20 if you raise £5 or more)
  • for 2h: £10 (£5 if you raise £5);
  • for 3h: £15 (£10 if you raise £5),
  • for 4h: £20 (£15 if you raise £5), whether you are a student or a City member.
So really, if you train for 4 hours, you might as well train for the whole day!

Finally, please promote the event to your clubs and get your members attending! We have set this event as a Give It a Go, so encourage your beginners as well as your higher grades.

So, see you on the mat very soon!

Celine
