On Saturday 8th november, Sheffield aikidoka challenged themselves to train 14 hours in one day. Through the day around 30 people trained, with Nottingham aikidoka joining us. Alumni members Lu Zou and Chu-Hai Wong came to cheer us in the morning. The juniors - 3 teenagers, and 4 under-13 - trained for 2 hours, except Joel who completed the whole 14 hours! The younger ones impressed us with their bokuto work! Dylan, Shinobu's wife and Korin's mum, brought us a yard long box of jaffa cakes (photo of Scott smiling, note ;-) It came at the right time as people had started flagging, with a few zombies spread out on the mats! (exhibit number 3 ;-)
All aikidoka's mat fees were pooled for the minibus fund, and together, we raised just under £500!
At the same time, our friends and family encouraged us by donating nearly £100 to the sensory garden at Burton Street Foundation in Hillsborough, so Scott will be able to get some nice scented plants to climb up the arbour (photo 4).
All in all, it was a great day, with some great performances, with funny stories (Scott demonstrating how to strangle properly, I'm glad I wasn't the uke!) weapons, including big breakfalls, a great show from juniors, men and women - see us delighted to have finished at the end of the 14 hours!
