Steel City Aikido November Newsletter

Dear all,

in this newsletter:

  • Aikido Marathon update
  • Upcoming events, including
  • SAUK Christmas seminar and Grading
  • Kendo in the dojo

---
10 days on from the Aikido Marathon, and I want to share the good news that we raised a total of £534.42 for the Sick Children's Trust, Sheffield Magnolia House. The house will accommodate parents of children who will have to stay long term in the Sheffield Children's Hospital intensive unit.

I went to see the ladies from the Sick Children's Trust who want to pass on their thanks to us all for our fundraising efforts and invite us to the official opening early December.

And here's a summary in numbers:
35 people trained on Saturday 9th November, with 32 brave (or crazy!) souls turning up at 7am; an amazing 26 people completed the challenge, by training from 7 in the morning until 9 in the evening!

We had 12 instructors on the day, relaying each other, covering 55 minutes each and with only 5 minutes break in between.

Sam Coveney felt this challenge was clearly not enough (!) and achieved a mind-boggling 1008 press ups on the day, by using his 5 minute breaks to pump out 72 press ups every break. I wasn't that brave!

Saturday 30/11 2-5pm Weapons seminar, open to all from beginners onwards. £5.
In our system of aikido called Shodokan aikido,  weapons (jo and bokuto) at 3rd dan grading. Does this mean that we shouldn't practise these before then? If you believe the answer is no (and you should!), then come and join us

Saturday 7/12 10am start. SAUK National Christmas seminar, grading and social, Nottingham.
This is our annual national event where all members from our association train together; it is also where the national dan gradings take place (1st to 3rd dan); we all go out afterwards for beer and food! We want a big turnout from Sheffield since Nottingham is so close to us. One not to miss!
