Dear all,
that's it, the new mats have found a home in our brand new dojo! We are now very close to the finished article, with protective mats on the walls still to do – I'm sure "tortoise" Caspar will vouch to their life saving quality...;-) – and general "snagging" tasks to complete, but we have achieved our mission to get the dojo ready for the second national squad session of the year this Saturday. A huge thank you to all dojo members - students and Steel City members - who have contributed to the refurbishment effort - with painting, toilet building, walls erecting etc! The biggest thanks must go to Scott who project managed the whole site and spent every single day in the dojo since work started a month ago.
So, without further ado, I would like to formally invite all current and former members of the dojo to our formal opening ceremony on Saturday 12th May 2012! More detail and a schedule of events will follow, but in the meantime, you can expect a training session, demonstrations, food etc, and maybe another trip to the 1877 Spa!

We put the new mats to good use for the first time last night with a grading, and all 7 Hallam and Sheffield students passed. Congrats to Ahmed, Patrick, Alistair, Damian and James for their first grading, and Jon "Bish" and Jack for their 3rd kyu! I can also report that the "winner" of the forfeit for being the first person to bleed on the mat is...Sheffield Uni Capt'n Charles who endured his 20 kotegaeshi breakfalls with aplomb...

National Squad Training (in brand new dojo) this Saturday 11-3pm (by invitation).
---
Seminar in York, Railway Institute - this Sunday 10-2pm. The easiest way to travel is by train, as the dojo is a mere 5mn walk from the station. Scott will lead the seminar and will teach us. We can offer a car seat on the way back.
---
National SAUK Club seminar (previously known as the closed event) - EIS, Sheffield, Saturday 21st April. Demonstrations from national instructors, seminar on Nage no kata by Scott, scoring and refereeing course for all with shiai bouts, and finally the much loved kongodantaesen team competition. We are aiming to enter three teams to this informal competition, one for each club from our dojo, so members of the City Club, do get in touch to take part!
---
Holiday timetable from this coming Tuesday 3/4; please note training time for Tuesdays: 6.30 til 8.30pm, no Friday 5pm session. All other training times are unchanged. We will be back to normal training from Tuesday 24th April.
---
See you all in our brand new dojo very soon!
Celine
