Steel City Aikido club - Congratulations to our latest dan grade!

Dear all,

last Saturday, our national aikido Association, Shodokan Aikido UK (SAUK) held its national seminar and dan grading and our own Shinobu passed his shodan, i.e. his black belt! It was a very good grading, which demonstrated a good understanding of the Shodokan system's fundamentals ("kihon"), as well as good timing and balance breaking, and I am very proud of him.

Our good friend and Nottingham instructor Mohammad - or Mo as we know him in the Sheffield junior club - also graded superbly, and deservedly took his 2nd dan with an impressive 78%!

So please congratulate them both next time you train with them!

Please also say hi to our latest members, Garry Radford, Patrick and Brendan McAuley and welcome them to the Steel City Aikido Club!

This Saturday (19/7), we are encouraging beginners and kyu grades to come and train at an extra session from 2 to 5pm, to help our trainee coaches improve their coaching. You will learn part of your syllabus and at only £5, it's a great opportunity to improve your skills and help the club.

People who are 2nd kyu or above, please join us from 11am to work on how best to teach kata to beginner and kyu grades. We'll be using the randori no kata as an example. The cost is only £10. Bring pen and paper, and of course your dogi!

Our next kyu grading will be on Tuesday 12th August 6.30-8pm in 4 weeks' time. As ever, discuss with Scott whether you should go for this grading; Remember, always bring your grading books at training sessions so you can practice your syllabus before (or after) sessions. Dan grades, please confirm your attendance as uke.

Finally, we will be celebrating all these great news with a barbecue at our allotment in Heeley on Sunday 3rd August, fingers crossed for some dry weather...Please let me know if you'll be there, and bring something to barbecue and share with others!

See you guys on the mat soon!
